Trip To Amritsar

planted Sept 2026 · 🌱 seedling

My sister was planning a trip to Amritsar and asked if I had any inputs. I gave her 3 lines

  1. Wagah border in the Evening (during flag-lowering time)
  2. Golden Temple
  3. Amritsari Kulcha

Then I sat with the thought for a while, because I went in Nov of 2011 and had not thought about the trip in years.

Our trip was kind of an impromptu train ride from Roorkee - a trip from college. The best thing about the journey was it was a single day trip - with no over-night stay required(excluding the train ride). No overnight stay meant less expenses and easier to align with parents for the trip - both key asks during Bachelors.

We started off from Roorkee city around 7pm. Gathered all snacks. Station around 10pm. Posed DDLJ style and clicked bunch of pictures. Hopped on the train. Played card games. Stepped down at number of stations - to stretch our legs and Glossary#Bakar.

Slept. Somewhere near Jalandhar around 4 am bunch of Glossary#Thulle boarded the train for patrolling, walked the coach, then got off.

Anyways, reached Amritsar around 6am. Cold, foggy. The day-trip begins!

Bargained with Autorickshaw wala to Get to Golden temple. Bathed in the sarovar. It was cold, so a quick dip. Went to temple. Sat to mesmerise the beauty. Had Langar. Steel plates, thousands of people having lunch at same time (Around a Lakh of people eat at Golden temple langar everyday).

Went to Jallianwala Bagh next, which was an emotional ride. The water well where thousands jumped to save their life, the bullet holes, you imagine yourself in that park during the massacre. Went to Attari-Wagah border at sunset. The energy at the border was another-level, something I had not experienced before-nor-after. Both sides competing on who could kick their leg higher or who could stamp it harder. The whole stadium screams in unity and feel patriotic.

It was a happening day. And happening day ends with "Red bull".

Train arrived around 10pm, and we reached college around 8am for normal-college day to begin.
